Not sure if hockey is for you, but want to find out? Bloomington Parks and Recreation offers a "Hockey Initiation" program, which is designed to provide a safe and positive introduction to hockey for beginning players. With a focus on beginner skating skills, puck-handling, passing, and shooting, the only equipment required is a hockey stick, a bicycle helmet, and a pair of gloves. No skating experience necessary.
Ready to get started in organized hockey? The Bloomington Parks and Recreation 6U House Hockey program is the entry level for players who are 6 years old or younger at the end of the calendar year.
8U/10U/12U House Hockey
The Bloomington Parks and Recreation 8U/10U/12U House Hockey program provides a fun environment for local hockey training and offers inexpensive twice-weekly ice time with the option to rent a full set of gear.
BBYHA Players in the 8U, 10U, and 12U divisions must register for Bloomington Parks and Rec House Hockey. You can register on the Parks and Recreation website. If you prefer to register offline, you can do so in person the Parks and Recreation office at City Hall.
House Hockey is organized, administered, and operated by the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department and is in no way operated by or affiliated with the BBYHA. The above information is provided as a convenience but accuracy is not warranted.
The BBYHA operates an equipment rental program for House Hockey players. You can equip your player with a full set of gear for the season at a fraction of the cost of buying it yourself.
If you need rental gear for 2019-2020, our 8U Mites Team Manager Sarah Powers will offer two rental-gear tryout times at the Frank Southern Ice Arena: Tuesday October 15, 6-7 pm; Monday, Oct 21, 5-6 pm. If these times don't work, please contact Sarah to arrange a fitting at Frank Southern Ice Arena. Click here to fill out a rental request in advance.
